| President's Message I'd like to wish a Happy Halloween to all Burton Valley Families. I hope you have fun at the parade today and please be safe tomorrow night. Just a reminder: don't eat all the treats in one sitting! I'd like to make a plug to read the Legislative update this week. Alice Stauffer talks about the importance of voting on Measure G and the ramifications on our high school district if it doesn't pass. Just blink twice and your kids will be in high school so please get out and vote yes next Tuesday, November 3rd. Measure G must win with a two-thirds majority. Every vote is critical - especially yours. Learn more - and endorse Measure G - at www.AboutMeasureG.com. Thank you to Kathy Kessenich and Nancy Wilson who spear headed the wonderful Art to Remember fundraiser. I bought too much stuff but I did cut down on my Christmas shopping list. Thanks for setting up those display tables each day to show us all the great products. I also want to again thank Alyse Pellegrini and Tracy Brewer for organizing our 2nd annual Walkathon-now it's our turn to get our pledgescollected and turned in! Let's not have all those laps go to waste! As always, feel free to contact me with any question or concerns. Happy Halloween! Dana Fillinger Ashburn |

In Memory of Robert Wood Robert Newell Wood, one of the three founders of LASF, passed away on October 21st. He is remembered for the many ways in which he offered his time and talents to improving community life, and in particular for his contributions to public education in Lafayette. In founding the Lafayette Arts & Science Foundation, his greatest wish was that LASF would provide all children in Lafayette with a public education that would rival the finest private schools. We are grateful for his vision. For details on his memorial service, please see: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/contracostatimes/obituary.aspx?n=robert-wood&pid=134926838 Simplify Your Life Is spring cleaning still on your "to do" list? LASF has a suggestion....let us take your gently used extras - cameras, laptops, handbags, video game consoles, etc. - and convert them to cash for our schools. LASF is partnering with the "I Sold It on eBay" store to sell donated items. LASF gets proceeds from the sale and you - our donors - get a timely tax deduction. It's simple. We are collecting items on Sunday, November 15 from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Acalanes High School parking lot. A more detailed list of items we would like to sell along with a list of things we cannot take, can be found at our website, www.lasf.org. Thank You from the Fall Phonathon Crew Thank you to everyone who participated in our Fall Phonathon - both callers and those who answered the call to donate. Special thanks to Bonnie Cornell, who spearheaded the effort that garnered over $49,000 in pledges, all of which will be spent at our school sites during the 2009-2010 school year. Donation envelopes are in the mail or you can donate on line at www.lasf.org

Legislative Update
MEASURE G : What to do if you still have your absentee ballotElection Day for Measure G is only one week away. If you still have your absentee ballot, it may be too late to put it in the mail. It must ARRIVE in Martinez by Election Day. The postmark does not count. To make sure your vote counts, you can take it to any polling place in the district. You can check on the location of the polling place nearest your home right here < http://www.cocovote.us/content.aspx?id=84>. If you have recently found that you will be out-of-town on Election Day you can have a relative or spouse deliver your ballot for you. To do so, place the ballot in the return envelope, seal it and sign the outside, acknowledging that you are entrusting your ballot to a relative or your spouse. Measure G must win with a two-thirds majority. Every vote is critical - especially yours. Learn more - and endorse Measure G - at www.AboutMeasureG.com. - Mary Newman & Teresa Gerringer, Campaign G - Lafayette Liaisons ****** Remember this Tuesday, November 3rd is the important election for Measure G. Measure G is the continuation of the existing parcel tax to support the Acalanes High School District. No taxes will increase and there is a senior exemption. This money supports core programs at the high schools such as science and languages. If Measure G does not pass, the loss will be the equivalent of 70 teachers, or the entire staff of one of the 4 high schools in the district. Parcel taxes in California require a 2/3 majority to pass - this is very difficult to achieve! Parents of school age children are the most likely to vote yes but the least likely to vote. Please express your support for the continuation of quality education this Tuesday! Thanks. Questions or concerns- please contact Alice Stauffer, PTA Legislative Representative, at a.stauffer@att.net with any questions or concerns.
