Elementary Culinary Competition, April 1, 2010 TO: All Principals and Teachers in above competition FROM: John Scatena General Manager Sodexo Schools Division Hello everyone, The whole concept of this is to help educate the kids in HEALTHY EATING HABITS. Too often we hear about obesity in kids and kids not making the right choices in terms of their eating habits. That’s why we want kids to submit recipes for their favorite after-school snack! Final Judging (see below) will be based on: • Health-conscious foods • Simple, kid-friendly preparation • Fun kid-foods • Judges Choice • Best Plate Presentation Timeline of what will happen: 1. Kids 3rd through 5th grades that want to participate fill out a recipe card. 2. Teachers collect the recipe cards and give them to the office 3. Office/Students return recipes to me at Cafeteria no later than 3/22/2010 4. “Distinguished Panel of Administrators” narrow down recipes to 5 students. 5. Those finalists will be formally invited to a Culinary Competition “Cook-Off” on Thursday, April 1st, tentatively scheduled 1pm after lunch. All Finalists will receive a framed plaque, a recipe book of all finalist’s recipes, and Chef Coat or Shirt, Apron and Hat. The Local Press will be invited to take pictures of the kid’s creations, as well as parents & teachers to view (& Taste!) the final product 2 pm on April 1stth. Safety issues, staff supervision: Each group of three kids will have assigned to them a kitchen staff member. This will ensure that safe food practices are followed, and no one gets harmed. Please let me know if I can answer any questions or concerns!
