Think | About Trustworthiness Keep true, never be ashamed of doing right, decide on what you think is right and stick to it.- George Elliot |
| President's Message You're invited to the first PTA meeting of the year next week! Yes, it is on the Third Thursday of the month! We have a new place and new time so check it out-Thursday, September 17th at 1-2:15 in room 35 (straight down the hall from the office toward the back playground). These
meetings are a fun way to learn about the upcoming events at our school
and hear from our Principal and any guest speakers. This week we will
hear from Michael Dawson, our website manager, talk about our new PTA
website and hopefully get feedback from you about how to make the site
more user friendly. He's already made great changes so far! Each
month we also host a drawing for the coveted "PTA Honoree" parking spot
in front of the office. If you come to the meeting, your name
is entered into a drawing for this prime parking spot good for a whole
month.
I hope everyone had fun at Back to School Night on
Thursday. It's so fun meeting the teachers, hearing about the
curriculum and the fun activities planned, signing up for various jobs
and meeting the parents in your child's/children's classrooms. On that
note, I encourage you to have a get together of some sort if possible
(morning coffee or evening party) at someone's house or at a local
restaurant so you can meet the parents of your child's class and/or
reconnect with old friends. Anytime I've done this, the year just seems
extra special! Please feel free to contact me anytime with
questions and/or concerns. I look forward to seeing you at the PTA
meetings the Third Thursday's of each month. Thanks for your attention, Dana Fillinger Ashburn

Hot Lunch You may not know this but I have 3 child in 3 different schools this year. Why should you care? You shouldn't, except that I do MY homework! You see...2 years ago I put together how much it would cost to send my older children to school with a lunch vs. what my youngest daughter is getting here for $3.40 or less at hot lunch. What I found is this: a Bologna sandwich with cheese (2 pieces Bologna, 1 piece cheese & 2 piece of bread), an apple, 3 cookies and a bottle of water (not counting the bags, mayo, etc.) cost within 5 cents of our hot lunch! Something else I learned...my kids won't eat Bologna...into the garbage it went. You may not be sending your kids with Bologna (the cheapest non peanut butter option), but I see what they are throwing out! Here's something else: at Stanley all lunches cost $4.95! Our most expensive ($3.40) is the price of your grande latte! Feel good about giving your children an economically sound, exceptional nutritionally balanced, meal they will love...and eat! Sept. 14-18 Monday: 11:00 Fred Toth & Lisa Evaristo, 11:30 Cheri Cook Ridge, Mira Yoon & Francie Low Tuesday: 11:00 Gretchen Palau & Barbara Price, 11:30 Jill Murray, Glendan Lawler & Patti McGregor Wednesday: 11:00 Jeff Fitzmyer & Julie Miles, 11:30 Mary Halpin, Josh Zhang & Linda Murphy Thursday: 11:00 Leah Mackay & Glendan Lawler, 11:30 Angela Ketcham, Caitlin Benazra & Rebecca Singh Friday: 11:00 Angela Perry & Judy Sarsam, 11:30 Angela Lucas, Scot Stambaugh & Nicole Jarotzky Check out the September Hot Lunch Menu |

in Lafayette: Many of us in Lafayette have yard space to grow veggies,
but not the time or expertise. There is a new non-profit called The
Urban Farmers (www.theurbanfarmers.org) which
aims to farm your backyard for you. You supply the land and water and
they supply the labor and expertise. All you need is 300+ square feet
of growing space. You receive all the food you can eat and the excess
is distributed to neighbors and charities. They are hoping to pilot
their model in Lafayette and would like to hear from anyone that might
be interested. Their service would be free. Send an email to inquiries@theurbanfarmers.org or call (415) 806-7005 .
