topPresident's Message

Happy Thanksgiving to all Burton Valley Families! This is a favorite of mine due in part to the relaxed nature of the holiday. To truly take the time to look at each family member and be grateful for the teacher they are in our lives. By being truly grateful for each other, what we have, where we live, for our friends and town, I feel connects us all to each other, our community and the world.

Ok, back to reality. At a recent meeting I was reminded of the California PTA's mission statement: To positively impact the lives of all children and families by representing our members and empowering and supporting them with skills in advocacy, leadership and communication. Wow! I'm in! Oh yeah, I'm president. Seriously -- our school district, all the parent groups and LASF are working together to continue to provide the quality education our community expects for our kids. This is becoming increasingly difficult due to budgetary constraints. I will be speaking more about this topic (budget) in December but too much reality can be irritating.  I will do my best to keep you informed on this important topic.

Thanks to all who attended the PTA meeting this week and a special thank you to Linda Bochte who provided us with lots of useful tips and websites to help better support our kids. We spoke about all the happenings at our school so if you missed it please look for the minutes that are distributed through your classroom coordinators or check out our website atwww.burtonvalleypta.org.  A special thank you goes out to the auction committee, lead by Sarah Cusumano, that has kept us informed about this upcoming fun event and have already worked many hours in preparation for the big event in April. I want to acknowledge the work they all do to benefit our school and our children. If you know any of these ladies please give them a thank you next time you see them.

Thanks for your attention and as always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Legislative UpdateLeg

The latest news from Sacramento is not looking good for school budgets. The latest report from the legislative analyst states: "Our forecast of California's General Fund revenues and expenditures shows that the state must address a General Fund budget problem of $20.7 billion between now and the time the Legislature enacts a 2010-11 state budget plan. The budget problem consists of a $6.3 billion projected deficit for 2009-10 and a $14.4 billion gap between projected revenues and spending in 2010-11. Addressing this large shortfall will require painful choices-on top of the difficult choices the Legislature made earlier this year." I'll keep the Burton Valley community posted as the impact on education in general and in our school district in particular develops.

Hot Lunch

Counting my Blessings at Thanksgiving: Most of you may not know that this is my 4th year at Hot lunch coordinator...a job that has been a great blessing for me...yes, I said blessing! Every week you see a list of volunteers -I see 25 individuals a week, 125 a month, that bless our children, and me, everyday. I am SO thankful that they not only volunteer and show up for their shift, but they are kind and loving and always greet our children with smiles. I am not only thankful for this job, I truly am blessed. Happy Thanksgiving.
