| | | President's Message I hope everyone had a restful holiday on Wednesday. We sure have a fun Saturday coming up with the new Library opening! I'm so excited for the kids, the parents and the community to have such a special place in our great town. I hope to see you there! Guess what is coming up next week on the Third Thursday of the month? You guessed it ... the PTA meeting. This month our meeting will be at 1:00-2:15 in room 35. Our meeting will be followed by a presentation by our librarian, Linda Bochte, who will show us some great research tools and educational websites for our kids. When I saw this a few years ago I was amazed that you didn't have to "Google" everything and then search through the millions of findings for every topic. My kids have surpassed me with the knowledge of computers now (and my oldest is only in 7th grade)! The other important event that will give you insight to our school is a fabulous night planned for parents explaining our new Character Counts character education program. This program, adopted by our district last spring, helps teach our kids (and remind us at home) about behavior that will help them succeed in life. What are those pillars you keep hearing about? Join us for an entertaining presentation that our kids will have seen that day in an assembly. This is a district-wide event so please RSVP to Marsha in the office so we know how much coffee to make. Please come anyway even if it's a last minute decision. So many thank-you's to say each week but one I haven't mentioned yet this year is our own Lisa Evaristo and the countless hours she spends making our lunch program run so smoothly. She deserves so much from all of us so the next time you see her give her a thank you. Another one: Karen Severo who with the help of many friends passed out all the Sally Foster orders to the classrooms. If you need more wrapping or forgot to order please feel free to go online and Burton Valley will still receive 50% of the proceeds from your order. The website is www.salleyfoster.com. Our school code is 221262 and it comes straight to your door! There's much more to say but come to the meeting and hear about all the rest. Thanks for your attention and as always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Dana Fillinger Ashburn PTA President danafillinger@me.com |

Photos Needed LASF is working on a visual presentation for our annual fundraising event in January and at the same time needs to start collecting photos for our annual report. We need photos showing a broad range of ages and activities... kids doing LASF classroom activities plus special events like art or science fairs, choral, drama or instrumental music or other performances. If you have digital photos of your child which you would allow us to use, please contact you LASF head rep,Juleen Lapporte at juleenlapporte@yahoo.com. Numbers Tell the Story Although photos may be a better way to tell our story (see above), we have some numbers that may interest you, too. This week, LASF instructors will teach a total of 73 different science, art and social studies classes between the four LAFSD elementary schools and Stanley Middle School. Not only is that a lot of classes but the number doesn't even include all the LASF-funded choral and instrumental music classes that will be held. By sheer number of classes alone, you can see that "Every Child, Every Classroom, Every Dollar Counts" is more than just a fundraising slogan - it is the way we serve the children in our district every day. Annual Event - Starry, Starry Night On Saturday January 30th, LASF is hosting our major fundraising party for the year with the theme a "Starry, Starry Night". In preparation, we are soliciting items for live and silent auction. To donate, please contact our Auction Coordinators, Mary Bakos at (925) 284-4795 or mlbakos@yahoo.com or Carrie Barlow at (415) 606-4949 or purecurls@mtbarlow.com. If you have any questions or need ideas on how you can help, please don't hesitate to contact your school site reps, Patty Gonserbpgonser@comcast.net, Tina Sebree tippi2020@comcast.net, or Annette Robinsonannette_robison@comcast.net.

Legislative Update
Measure G Passes An Expression of Appreciation to Our K-8 Partners The passage of Measure G is a great reflection of the hearts and minds of the community. During a difficult economic climate, the citizens of our community united to support the educational well-being of our youth. Considering the vast majority of our voting population does not have students in K-12 education, Measure G's support rate of 74% is a great testament to the values of our community. Such support is the life-blood of our district. A heart-felt THANK YOU goes out to our insightful citizens for expressing such impressive support for the future leaders of our community. AUHSD Superintendent John Stockton & The Measure G Campaign ************* Measure G passed with a resounding 74% of the vote! Thank you concerned and caring parents for making your voices heard. Our high schools and students will benefit immensely from this continuing stable source of locally controlled funding. Next up: the continuing California buget crisis and what it means for our district.Any question or concerns- please contact Alice Stauffer, PTA Legislative Representative, at a.stauffer@att.net with any questions or concerns.

Hot Lunch
More money saving tips: The Godfrey famil recently sent me a tip using a 3% hydrogen peroxide & water mix for removing stains on clothes. I googled 'hydrogen peroxide " and was blown away by the amount of stuff that came up. I used it to get the gunk off the bottom of my garbage and compost bins and to clean my plastic ware. Try it yourself - google it! It is a lot less expensive and totally safe -you can even brush your teeth with it -although I prefer my mint flavor! Keep sending your cost saving tips! November 16-20
